We have a very well cared-for 1980 Volkswagen Polo, this particular little polo was magazine featured in Performance VW in April 2016. The original owner purchased this car brand new but sadly went blind. They kept the car garaged hoping their condition wasn’t permanent but reluctantly sold the car to its next owner, with only 7,000 miles on the clock around early 2012. They undertook the restoration and modifications getting it to what it is today.

Body work-wise the car is very original, other than the front end being backdated to a pre-1979 polo which gives it that very retro early Volkswagen style. The car has been fully repainted with its original colour of Lido green in 2014, as well as the underneath of the car has been protected with 3M underseal in 2022. All the upholstery is completely original for the car, which has held up remarkably well for a car of 43 years old, but is slightly starting to show its age on the front seats. The Steering wheel has been replaced with a Momo California wheel. The engine bay has been very well thought out to give the smoothed engine bay look, and the battery and washer bottle has been relocated to the boot to provide this.

The engine has been replaced with a 1.4 16v “AFH” engine which has been converted to run twin Weber 40 DCOE Carburettors which produces an approximate 135 wheel horsepower, which in a car that originally weighs 680kg is a lot of fun! The front brakes have been upgraded with Polo G40 Callipers and discs to give it ample stopping power. Ta Technix coilovers have been fitted to give the car a lower stance and sportier suspension. For the wheels, it has been fitted with a very aggressive 7j front and 7.5j rear with 195 - 45 tyres. This setup has given the car very much a fast road setup, the lightness of the car combined with the noise from the Webers and power from the larger engine is a very exhilarating experience as driver or passenger!

The car is fully ready to drive away with a recent full service. The paintwork has also been flat and polished, with a good coating of wax. Viewing highly recommended, a unique one of a kind Polo!
